Uma rara primeira edição da bibliografia econômica pós depressão 1929.

 Um dos mais importantes documentos da grande depressão, visto e vivido por dentro Richberg nos traz o acontecimento por  dentro, como a trama realmente se deu nos bastidores, ele mesmo um dos  chefes do processo de recuperação economica e política da nação.

No início do New Deal, Richberg apoiou o programa de Administração de Recuperação Nacional de Roosevelt, mas com o passar do tempo ele foi incapaz de aceitar o crescimento do grande governo e do Estado de bem-estar que mais tarde se desenvolveu a partir dele. Muitos dos antigos liberais acreditavam firmemente na viabilidade da competição, oportunidade e individualismo, e odiavam os esforços posteriores dos jovens liberais para expandir as funções do governo. A história de Donald Richberg é de uma fidelidade persistente ao antigo conceito de liberalismo.
